James blast over Busted breakup
An angry James Bourne has laid into ex-bandmate Charlie simpson for breaking up Busted, blasting: "He cost us millions."
The boy band star broke his silence to exclusively tell me about the devestating effect Charlie's walk=out and the end of tyhe group after three years had on him and bandmate Matt Jay.
James, about to release material with new band Son of Dork, slammed Charlie for leaving whole Busted were at the top.He stormed: "We missed out on a fortune, millions of pounds each. Matt and I were devastated."
"We were having the biggest party of our lives. Then Charlie suddenly turned the lights on and it was time to go home."
James was snowboarding in Vancouver in January when Charlie phoned to say he was quitting.
He revealed: "We begged him not to. Then we pressured him into doing a press conference.
"The night before I dreamt Charlie would dramatically change his mind in front of the media. "Then we could have cashed in on the publicity and got even bigger.
"But I woke up and realised we were breaking up. It's odd because it happened when we were massive.
"We'd set a new record by playing Wembley 11 times in a year. We won two Brits and Record of the Year. Our single Thunderbirds was No1 and we had an MTV show in America.
"Then it suddenly ended because Charlie wasn't into the music any more. We could have easily milked it for another year and still gone out with a bang."
The break-up left a huge void in Matt and James' lives - while Charlie pursued his rock dream with Fightstar. It was months before record company Mercury signed the other two as solo artists.
Matt, now Matt willis, suffered so badly he checked into the celebrity rehab clinic The Priory in April for an alcohol-related problem.
James also revealed that, despite their pretty-boys image, Busted used to party like rock stars. He confessed: "We crashed as many student nights at clubs as we could wherever we were touring. Guys all wanted to bear us up but the girls wanted to party.
"One night in Wales was the best ever. People go to uni for the social life. At least we got to experience that. Busted was the coolest three years of my life."
Son of Dork's single, Ticket Outta Loserville, is out on November 7. Album Welcome to Loserville follows on November 21.
